Malware Hunter is intended to protect your computer from virus threats and optimize your system. The tool has a very straightforward interface that is appropriate for any kind of user. The program is based on Avira, a very successful antivirus engine. It allows scanning your system in three different ways. If you are running short of time, you can run a quick scan, which examines your system’s most vulnerable areas only. On the contrary, a full scan takes considerable more time but makes a more thorough analysis. This should be done once in a while to eliminate threats that a quick analysis may have left behind. There is also the possibility of scanning specific files or folders, which is available from the tool’s interface as well as from Windows contextual menu.

As to system optimization, there is the SpeedUp module, which lets you manage startup items, scheduled tasks, services, and plugins. Unfortunately, deciding which of these items to remove or keep depends solely on the user’s knowledge in this area, as the tool does not provide any type of information whatsoever. Just like most optimizers, Malware Hunter can scan the Registry to detect and fix various types of inconsistencies and errors. Likewise, it can find and erase junk data left as a result of user activity, like browser cache and undesired plugins, which not only saves storage space but also protects your privacy.

In general, Malware Hunter has the advantage of using a reliable detection engine. It is a pity that the product is shareware and its trial version does not provide real-time protection. You should also know that there are similar programs available at no cost.
